Which Football Training Session Is Right for Your Child?

With so many different ways for young footballers to train, it can be difficult to know which type of session is the best fit for your child.

Some players may benefit from more time developing their technical skills, while others might enjoy a fun and structured environment where they can build confidence and get more touches of the ball. Some may have a particular area of their game they want to work on, while others simply want more opportunities to play.

At SS United, we offer a range of additional football training options designed to support players at different ages, abilities and stages of development.

But which one is right for your child?

Saturday Soccer School

Best for: Players aged 4–11 looking for fun, regular football and the opportunity to develop their fundamental skills.

Saturday Soccer School is a great option for younger players who want to enjoy football while building confidence and developing their skills.

Sessions focus on areas such as:

  • Ball control and ball mastery

  • Dribbling and turning

  • Coordination

  • Basic football technique

  • Confidence with the ball

  • Enjoying the game in a friendly, supportive environment

Players are grouped by age, helping sessions stay appropriate and enjoyable for their stage of development.

It's also a great way for players to get plenty of touches of the ball and develop their skills alongside their usual football.

Technical Training

Best for: Players who want to spend more time developing their technical ability.

Technical Training provides a fast-paced environment where players can focus on the skills they use throughout a game.

Sessions work on areas including:

  • Close control

  • Passing

  • Movement

  • Skill development

  • Decision-making

  • Awareness in tight spaces

With lots of touches and opportunities to practise, players can work on becoming more comfortable and confident with the ball.

Technical Training is open to boys and girls of all abilities and is particularly useful for players who want an additional opportunity to focus on the technical side of their game.

1:1 Football Coaching

Best for: Players who have specific areas they want to improve or who would benefit from personalised attention.

Every player has different strengths and areas they can work on. With 1:1 coaching, sessions can be built around the individual player rather than following a set group programme.

Coaching can focus on areas such as:

  • Passing

  • Dribbling

  • Shooting

  • Defending

  • Ball control

  • Confidence

  • Preparing for trials

Players receive detailed feedback throughout the session, allowing the coach to focus on what that particular player needs.

This can be particularly useful if your child is struggling with a specific part of their game or wants to work towards a particular goal.

Small Group Coaching

Best for: Players who want personalised training while still learning and competing with others.

Small group coaching is available for groups of 2–4 players, offering a balance between individual attention and working with other players.

Sessions can focus on areas such as:

  • Passing

  • 1v1 situations

  • Movement

  • Decision-making

  • Technical skills

  • Playing under pressure

Working in a small group can also add an element of competition and make certain practices more game-like.

It's a good option for friends, teammates or players who enjoy developing their skills together.

So, Which Session Should You Choose?

There isn't one session that is right for every player.

It really depends on your child's age, experience, confidence and what they want to get from their football.

As a general guide:

Looking for fun, regular football and fundamental skills?
→ Saturday Soccer School

Want to focus on technical ability?
→ Technical Training

Have a specific area or goal to work on?
→ 1:1 Coaching

Want focused training with a small number of players?
→ Small Group Coaching

And remember, these sessions are designed to complement regular team football, rather than replace it. Additional training gives players more opportunities to practise, develop and enjoy the game alongside their usual team environment.
