Fun Football Activities to Keep Kids Active This Christmas
The Christmas holidays are a lovely chance for children to rest, enjoy family time and take a break from their usual routines. At the same time, a little bit of movement over the break can really help children return to football feeling confident and happy.
The good news for parents is that staying active doesn’t mean structured training or long sessions. Short, fun activities that fit around family life are more than enough.
Here are some simple football ideas your child can enjoy over the Christmas holidays.
⚽ 1. Short and Simple Ball Time
Encourage your child to spend 10–15 minutes a day with a football. This can be in the garden, at the park, or even in a clear space at home.
Ideas include:
Gentle dribbling
Toe taps on the ball
Rolling the ball side to side
Practising turns around a cone or pair of shoes
Little and often is far better than long sessions.
🎄 2. Try a “Skill of the Day”
To keep things fresh, focus on one simple skill each day:
Dribbling
Ball control
Turning
Juggling
Using their weaker foot
There’s no pressure to be perfect — the aim is to build confidence and enjoyment.
🎅 3. Make It Fun and Festive
Adding a Christmas twist keeps children engaged:
Dribble to the Christmas tree and back
Score a goal before a Christmas song ends
Set up fun targets using cones, bottles or toys
If children are smiling, they’re doing it right.
👨👩👧 4. Get the Whole Family Involved
Children love it when parents or siblings join in:
Simple passing games
Keep-ups together
A relaxed kick-about at the park
These moments often mean more to children than the football itself.
📅 End of Term & January Return Dates
Our final SS United sessions take place this week, and we’d like to say a big thank you to all our players and families for another fantastic term.
We return in January with:
Technical Training sessions starting again on Thursday 8th January
Saturday Soccer School returning on Saturday 10th January
All sessions can be booked online here:
A little football over the Christmas break helps children stay active, confident and ready to enjoy sessions when we return — but most of all, we hope families enjoy a relaxing and happy holiday.
🎄 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from everyone at SS United
